• GDPR is the EU general data protection regulation, which regulates how data on European citizens can be stored and used. It applies to any online system that collects information on a European citizen regardless of the origin of the system, whether a different country or a different continent.
• GDPR was implemented on May 25th, 2018
• California has passed a bill to implement the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 which is to be implemented on January 1st, 2020
• New York is currently drafting up it’s own Data Privacy Act as of June 2019
• Between the EU, California, and New York that is more than 565 million potential online customers
